I’m sitting in Stansted airport, waiting for my number to come and for the first time in a week I feel relaxed. My backpack is in the hands of Stansted baggage handlers and is out of my control. I have kept my electronics and some other items with and will probably struggle to get everything into the backpack.

My final pieces of equipment were delivered by Royal Mail five minutes before my parents gave me a lift to the airport and the stress of the last 24 hours has been ridiculous, nevertheless I am almost there. My backpack weighs in at around 16 kg and with the extras in hand luggage will probably top twenty. That does include nearly 3kg of foodstuffs like creamer, milk powder, coffee, electrolyte powder, emergency rations, ten energy bars, and some peanut butter. I also have just over 2kg of electronics, including and iPad, kindle and mobile. I’ve bought a solar monkey extreme solar charger and it seems pretty robust and will hopefully last me the trip. I plan to talk more about my equipment in further blog posts, I know this is really useful for backpackers as other travel blogs and websites have proven to be invaluable to me.
As you can see from the photo below I’ve shaven my head for the convenience of no greasy hair to worry about, much to the shock of my parents and amusement of my girlfriend. I’ve said my farewells to everyone now and need to make some truly last minute preparations whilst I still have 3G.
I’ll be blogging again soon.
