I managed to get the bus from Haugesund to Bergen and it turned out to be the best bus ride I’ve ever taken despite also being the most expensive. The bus included a ferry across the bjornoforden which was beautiful and relaxing, the weather was clear there and my newly shaved head felt the heat of the sun. Upon reaching Bergen, I discovered that I’d missed the last bus to Odda and would have to wait until Sunday. Unfortunately, all the youth hostel dormitories were fully booked and I’ve ended up paying a small fortune for a double room. The hard core among you will laugh and said I should have slept in the bus shelter and you do have a point, however I have washed and dried my kit, had a shower, breakfast, made use of the wifi and pilfered as much twining tea sachets as reasonable from the breakfast bar.

I’m catching the 1130 bus to Odda which is supposed to be a spectacular journey and will stay in a campsite overlooking the hardangerfjord tonight. I will use this as a base camp to explore Folgefonna for a few days as it is a four hour trek away from the glacier which is on e top of my priority list.
I feel like a cop out for not wild camping my way there but the weather forecast is grim to terrible for the next few weeks in Rogaland and am sure I will find my feet again in Folgefonna.
I haven’t got off to the best of starts but I’m here to enjoy myself and won’t let it get to me. Ending up in Bergen has really been a blessing in disguise as it is a beautiful city and my night here has given me time to reevaluate my plan as the original plan has gone to pot. My waterproof map case turned out to be not so waterproof and printing them out on regular A4 paper has bitten me in the arse because I’m now out of maps. I’ll buy some in Odda for Folgefonna and decide what the next step is when I get there.
For those of you who have been reading this blog with hope of wild camping stories I apologise as so far it’s all been a bit farcical, I’m laughing though and it’s been a right old little adventure.
I’ll be blogging again soon 🙂 in the meantime here are some nice pictures the Bjornofjorden and Bergen.
