Hello to everyone who has stumbled across this blog, be you friends, family, or curious travellers. I hope you enjoy my ramblings and to give you advance warning this blog is going to focus on my experiences of wild camping and my walk through Europe.

Over nine months ago I decided it would be a wonderful idea to walk and wild camp across Europe, surviving on the contents of my backpack. My original plan was to walk from Norway to Istanbul, passing through as many national parks and wild places as possible. After a bit of research using Google Maps I realised the journey would be approximately 5000 miles and would takes in excess of a year. Time to think about this some more . . .
My final year of university put my grand adventure on the back burner and I had time to ponder the feasibility of my expedition. My commitment remained and on New Years Day I bought a new pair of walking boots, despite having no set destination and no real plan. My destination changed from Istanbul to Santiago de Compostela and back again, in a brief moment of madness Cape Town was on the horizon and finally I abandoned the idea of any destination at all. My start point remained unchanged and on May 19th I booked a one way flight to Haugesund, Norway for the 1st August. Tomorrow.
I gave my notice at work, graduated, and told friends and loved ones of my plans. Many thought I was mad, although most were still supportive. I began researching equipment and making purchases, planning my route, and preparing for a long walk. As I write I am still waiting on final deliveries and have to pop in to town to pick up some last minute items. A second blog post will follow later today but I needed to write this first post as it has been on my to do list for over a month.
Thanks for reading,
Alex 🙂
