On Sunday 8th June 2014 the Wilderness Foundation in conjunction with partners Strutt and Parker (Farms) opened up the Chatham Green Project for members of the public to tour the farm and conservation areas and learn more about the work that we are doing to bring people closer to nature.   The farm was open as part of LEAF’s National Open Farm Sunday scheme which operates annually.
Wilderness Foundation UK Operations Manager Richard Corby and Strutt and Parker (Farms) Farming Manager Andrew Cook conducted three guided tours of the site during the day, running at 11:30, 12:30 and 1:30 p.m.    The tour took in the Wilderness Foundation’s activity area in the meadow, the new tree plantation (one of sixty new Diamond Jubilee Woods across the UK), cropped fields and the new management and habitat areas such as the Fleuristically Enhanced Field Margins and the new woodland pond.
In total we welcomed twenty visitors to the farm ranging from the very young to the young-at-heart and everyone enjoyed a thoroughly good day out.   Guests who came for the opening at 11:00 a.m. were still here when we closed at 3:00 p.m. although our tempting range of cakes being served in the Education Centre had a part to play in that.
Thanks to all who came to learn more about what we are doing and those the promised to come back and help on the farm through the year.  We look forward to welcoming many more visitors for Open Farm Sunday in 2015.
Additional thanks to Richard, Helen, Andrew, Susan and Will who all volunteered on Sunday and made it such a success.
