Happiness and Well-being has received much policy and media attention over the last few years. This is based on the new emerging science of well-being and positive psychology, which is built upon psychological and social research into what factors create a good life. However, the environmental movement has for decades highlighted that western lifestyles are built upon a fundamentally materialistic vision of the good life that demands ever increasing consumption of natural resources, with implications for climate change and biodiversity loss.
Nic Marks founded nefs centre of well-being to help re-frame the challenges facing humanity in the 21st century in terms of a future vision of a brighter lighter society where good lives dont have to cost the earth. He will share data from nefs award winning Happy Planet Index which assesses the ecological efficiency with which nations deliver human well-being and will draw on his experience of working with local, national and international governmental departments and agencies.
