Beyond Forgiving is the latest documentary from Initiatives of Change UK. It tells the inspiring journey of two South Africans who bring healing and reconciliation to post-apartheid South Africa. Ginn Fourie and Letlapa Mphahlele form an unlikely team: a black atheist man and a white Christian woman. One has suffered directly from the actions of the other – both have been victims and risen beyond their pain. What brings them together is a profound story of both tragedy and hope.
Imad Karam, Film Director and Head of Communications for IofC-UK, has been honoured with the Award of Excellence for Best Director from IFFPIE. Karam says: ‘My ultimate hope is that if people can be inspired that even in the most dire circumstances people can forgive; then many of us can forgive the little things that we can’t let go in our daily lives. We don’t have to be warring tribes or parties or to have killed to forgive each other’.
Beyond Forgiving has also won an Award of Merit at the Best Shorts Competition, 2013 and so far has been officially selected by the Global Peace Film Festival (2013) and the Peace on Earth Film Festival (2014).
Ginn Fourie and Letlapa Mphahlele have been invited by Initiatives of Change-UK and The Forgiveness Project to take part in a UK Speaking Tour on healing and reconciliation. The tour is part of a national, educational programme towards peace building, restorative justice in communities with planned public screenings, seminars and workshop events across the country. The film has won several international awards and we expect the tour to attract media interest in the UK. The planned tour is from 12-24 May 2014 when a screening is planned to take place in London. When details are finalised we will post details on our website.
