Danbury Barbastelle Project
Join us for a revealing evening with Graham Hart from the Essex Bat Group to hear about their largest research project, exploring how one of our rarest mammals, the Barbastelle Bat, uses the landscape around the Danbury area.
The project has been running since 2019, working closely with landowners to help protect these very special bats and the habitats they rely on, achieving some fascinating results!

Step into the quiet beauty of winter with our very own therapist, Laura Hubbard, and give yourself a gentle boost against the darker days. Our Winter Wellness Wander is a calming, guided walk through our ancient woodland at Mann Wood designed to support those experiencing Seasonal Affective Disorder or winter low mood. Together, we’ll slow down, breathe deeply and use the power of nature to lift mood and ease stress. Wrapped in the stillness of the woods, you’ll find space to restore energy, clear the mind, and feel more balanced as you move through the season.
Join us for a nourishing dose of fresh air, daylight, and nature-based wellbeing. Your winter reset begins in the woods.

Stories of Essex with James Lawrence
James Lawrence, AKA Man About Country, is a storyteller, adventurer and naturalist. For over 5 years he’s led walks around some of Britain’s most fascinating places, guiding people to discover the country like never before.
James is fresh off the Essex Ways: a 400km walking adventure around his home county to discover its best places, people and stories. He set out to bust the negative media stereotypes and prove that Essex is one of the most fascinating counties in England. Now James is teaming up with the Wilderness Foundation to lead a brand-new story walk.
You’ll venture deep into this beautiful corner of Essex, rich in wildlife and with varied habitats to explore. You’ll also hear some of the stories from the local area: the history, folklore and legends that Essex the unique county it is today.
