Two Wilderness Foundation UK projects have been shortlisted for this year’s Heart of Essex Award running in the Essex Chronicle and the Brentwood Gazette. You can vote for the project that you think deserves a share of the £8,000 prize fund. We hope you will think it’s one of ours!
Nominations are split into three categories:
Education Community Environment
Prizes will be as follows:
3 x £1,500 for each of the category winners
3 x £700 for a runner-up in each category

Our shortlisted projects are:
Education Category – TurnAround
The TurnAround Project works with the most vulnerable young people in our communities across Essex. The project works with young people for a minimum of 9 months, who go on wilderness journeys by boat, canoe or on foot in the wildest parts of Scotland.

Environment Category – Down to Earth
This project has been designed to encourage strong community relationships while spreading awareness of sustainability, environmental issues, organic principles, local food issues and benefits to health. Funds are used to pay for sessional instructors to support people in growing their own food, as well as buying seeds, plants and equipment.
