Eight girls and two teachers from St. James Senior Girls School, London have departed the UK for an exciting wilderness adventure!
On Friday 8th July 2016 8 senior girls and 2 teachers flew out of the UK bound for South Africa and the pristine wilderness of the Hluhluwe iMfolozi reserve.
The Wilderness Foundation has a long-established history of delivering exciting and challenging overseas school expeditions. The latest group from St. James Senior Girls‘ represents the tenth time in recent years that the school has chosen the Foundation to organise a combined wilderness journey and community volunteer programme for them, which includes a DofE Gold Residential.
The group arrived safely in Durban on Saturday and were collected from the airport by guides from the Wilderness Leadership School. They were transferred to the Kenneth Steinbank Nature Reserve in the Durban hills – home to the WLS, where they spent the first night and were able to enjoy the grounds and wildlife before a hearty supper with the school staff. On Sunday morning they set off for their community programme and were able to enjoy a marine trail at a midway point in the journey.
The girls will now spend the next five days living and working in a rural community, before preparing for the wilderness trail in the iMfolozi.
