“To be the very best version of ourselves that we can possibly be.”
Founded in 1956 The Wilderness Leadership School in South Africa is the early home of our leadership development programmes. Trails run by Ian Player and his close friend and colleague Magqubu Ntombela developed leaders who not only understood themselves and others but also carried an
environmental and social ethic. This work continues through today with a range of programmes still running in South Africa.
It is against this backdrop and history that we founded the UK based Wilderness Leadership Academy, to provide a range of services and programmes to help organisations, develop leaders, through leveraging the benefits of nature and the outdoors. Creating the next generation of leaders, leading highly motivated and engaged teams.
As a not for profit organisation the surplus generated from the Academy programmes will provide some of the much needed funding to support the charitable work of the Foundation.
The three core areas of provision cover: –
- Personal Resilience
- Leadership Development
- High Performing Teams
Our team of expert advisors and facilitators are on hand to discuss your specific needs and identify the most appropriate programme solution for your organisation.
Personal Resilience – Our personal resilience is at the very core of our being and when our resilience is low we are fragile and susceptible to all the stresses and strains that life can throws at us. However when our resilience is high we have an inner strength and ability to bounce back that allows us to weather all of the storms that life can send our way.
At the Wilderness Foundation we harness the immense power of nature and the outdoors to give us that inner strength and ability to bounce back and cope in ways that we would have previously only dreamt of. Being in nature draws on our primal needs, helping to centre us and understand better our core values and purpose, as a foundation for clearer thinking and decision making.
Through a range of blended programmes, we use tried and tested principles of behavioural development with the natural resources of the outdoors to provide a truly enlightening and life changing experience.
The core resilience programmes cover both our personal and working lives and range from half day awareness workshops to full three day immersion programmes, taking full advantage of all that the outdoors can offer
- Personal resilience for life
- Personal resilience for work
‘Growing natural leaders’, is much more than a play on words that depicts our connection with nature and the outdoors. Developing the natural leader that is within us all is at the core of all we do. Whether to effectively lead just oneself or whether to be the next CEO of a multi-national organisation, creating genuine servant leaders is the driving force of the academy.
Our leadership programmes can either be standalone or as part of a continuous journey, first mastering self leadership, then team and ultimately organisational leadership
- Self leadership
- Team leadership
- Organisational leadership
At the very centre of our leadership programmes, are a set of simple and highly effective principles. In order to achieve long-term sustainable success as leaders we need to enable others, to serve them and help them to realise their full potential.
High Performing Teams
All to often teams are a dysfunctional collection of highly capable individuals. Developing truly cohesive, connected teams takes time and commitment. Our team programmes work on building trust, deep rooted understanding and a range of other key attributes to define what cohesive and high performing teams should look like in your organisation.
The power of nature and the outdoors, in particular our unique wilderness trails provide the perfect natural tools & environment to facilitate the creation of high performing teams that will underpin the future success of your organisation
As with most of our programmes they can either be standalone or as part of a continuous journey
- Building team cohesion
- The cornerstones of high performing teams
- Maintaining the momentum of high performance
