Turning words into action to protect and enhance the local environment and tackle climate change.

If you know a young person that wants to make a difference for the environment but is yet to have had their chance, get in touch! These workshops will be an introduction to the Green Influencer scheme. The taster sessions will help explain what the young people can get involved in if they join the programme which will be starting off on a bi weekly or monthly basis from September onwards.

Young people will then get the chance to do some outdoor/nature activities and explore our 40acre site. Activities will include a Nature walk, invertebrate search, looking at different habitats and our rewilding project at Chatham Green. Time will be spent sharing ideas and discussing environmental concerns, thoughts on the workshop and the next step on their green influencers journey.

If you know a young person who would like to be involved, we want to meet them!

They need to tell us why they would like to become a green influencer. Send in a letter, video, poster or photo made by your young green influencer to Terri, our Green Mentor, explaining why they want to be involved and how they think they can make a difference to the environment.

The scheme funds 40 Green Mentor posts based in Host Organisations across England, supporting groups of young people in their environmental social action projects.

The National Lottery Community Fund and the Department of Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) are each investing £25 million seed funding to create the #iwill Fund. The Ernest Cook Trust is acting as a match funder and awarding grants on behalf of the #iwill Fund.

At Wilderness Foundation we have received grant funding and as a ‘Host Organisation’ have recruited our Green Mentor to recruit, support and oversee groups of Green Influencers within their community.

The Green Influencers scheme enables a Green Mentor to support groups of young people in their environmental and social action. The scheme enables young people to make a real difference to their environment.

The Green Influencers projects will benefit communities while helping them create lasting and meaningful connections with the natural environment. They will learn new skills and gain experience and confidence as they devise, develop and implement environmental social action projects.

At Wilderness Foundation UK we have a deep understanding of creating connections to the natural world and how this forges a sense of responsibility to respect and protect nature and the environment.

Only 4 in 10 young people that want to take part in youth social action, actually do. In disadvantaged communities where young people are less able to access the many benefits this figure is even lower.

Their communities don’t enjoy the full potential of their talent, energy and ideas. Most young people just need to be given the opportunity to take part.

We are now looking to recruit our groups of Green Influencers so if you are or you know of any young people aged 10-14 years who are keen to get involved in environmental social action, please get in touch with our Green Mentor.
